Well, it’s actually here today if you want to try it out. We’d love your feedback and any bug reports (give it to us here on the forum).

We’ve just launched a new version of the Vodpod Button (which you can get here if you don’t already have it):

What’s new? We’ve tried to make the process simpler, and easier, by adding a screen to confirm we’ve grabbed the right video, and offering a clear option to paste in the embed code for the video you want if we haven’t. Previously, that last part was somewhat obscure.

On most video sharing sites, most of the time, you’ll see a screen that looks like this when you click the Vodpod Button to add a video (you must be on a page where the video is playing, of course):

If the Vodpod Button has grabbed the right video, click the “Yes, this is the video” link and add your title, tags and any comment. A final screen confirms you’ve added the video, and gives you handy options to share the video you’ve just added on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog (that all happens automatically, of course, if you’ve installed our Facebook or Twitter apps or our blog widget).

Ocassionally the Vodpod Button will find multiple videos, or things that look like videos, on a page. In that case, you may need to click the “next video” link until you get to the video you want.

If the Vodpod Button didn’t get the right video, click the “Nope, this isn’t the video” link (on first screen) or the “I Don’t See the video I want” (on the multiple video screen above). We’ll take you to a screen that looks like this:

You’ll need to copy the embed code for the video you want, then paste it into the form as shown above and click continue. The way video sites provide embed codes varies, but often you’ll find it next to the word “Embed” or bracket symbols (<>) or as part of the “share” options.

Some sites don’t provide embed codes for their videos, or offer types of embed codes that won’t work on Vodpod and other popular blogging platforms and social networks (for security reasons). We’ve tried to list the major sites we know of that we can’t support here.

Let us know what you think about the new Vodpod Button. We’d love your feedback.
